Guzman Center, downtown Miami, 1986
Jorge Luis Morejon's debut was with Prometeo Theatre as one of the two Corifeos in Virgilio Pinera's play Electra Garrigo. The play, under the direction of Alberto Sarrain at the Guzman Center, Miami, has left an everlasting effect on Jorge Luis' theatrical experience. This play has also been very important for the development of Cuban Theatre. Its content and history have influenced Jorge Luis' theatre choices through out his various artistic collaborations. The following statement explains Electra Garrigo's significance within the Cuban theatre context:
"When Virgilio Pinera initiates the contemporaneity of Cuban theatre with his Electra Garrigo in 1948, (...) he knows that along with the great keys of occidental models which garrantee universality, theatre, to be national, can not ignore its cultural antecedents. In fact, it is important to emphasize that, it is mucking the vector of ideological and esthetic Greek tragedy and myth, put in solfège in Virgilio's parody." Omar Valino
