Prior to completion of his degree from FIU, Jorge Luis Morejon was offered a teaching position within the Miami-Dade School system to teach children with emotional disabilities. Then he moved to a setting with children who were severely emotional disturbed. As he became more familiar with the characteristics of children with special needs, he developed an interest in the therapeutic aspect of the arts. Based on this growing interest, he decided to study Expressive Arts Therapy. The rationale for this approach was to combine his already acquired pedagogical skills with the expressive arts approach. The European Graduate School in Saas Fee, Switzerland allowed Jorge Luis Morejon to developed new and more effective techniques that he could immediately test with not only his special students, but also with the adults and children from the theater program at MDC.
