Turandot

Jorge Luis Morejon (Prince of Persia).
Dade County Auditorium. Miami, 1990.
Jorge Luis was a member of the Greater Miami Opera Chorus for a number of seasons. He sang under the artisitc direction of principal conductor Willie Anthony Waters and conductor and accompanist Steven M. Crawford.

His debut took place in Turandot, an opera in three acts by Giacomo Puccini, to an Italian libretto by Giuseppe Adami and Renato Simoni and based on Friedrich Schiller's adaptation of the play Turandot by Carlo Gozzi. It was left unfinished by Puccini at his death, and completed by Franco Alfano. Interesting enough, the first performance, at the Teatro alla Scala, in Milan, on April 25th, 1926, was conducted by Arturo Toscanini.

Turandot is a Persian word and name meaning "the daughter of Turan", Turan being a region of Central Asia which used to be part of the Persian Empire. The Greater Miami Opera produced Puccini's famous opera Turnandot, which was performed at the Dade County Auditorium where discovered by the designers, Jorge Luis Morejon played the Prince of Persia.
