Quinceañera

Quinceanera Waltz. Choreography by Jorge Luis Morejon.
Biltmore Ballroom. Biltmore Hotel. Coral Gables. Florida
.
Jorge Luis Morejon choreographed the sweet fifteenth of a quinceañera. The dance was designed to resemble a tradition that originated in the Cuban upper class but that has permeated all social levels in Cuba as well as in the exile community. The traditional celebration introduces the young girl to society through the Fiesta de Quince. The event was the result of a series of rehearsals, where fifteen teenage couples learned not only how to dance the waltz, a tradition of the Cuban quinces, but also how to observe the rules of etiquette during this type of society's much celebrated gathering. Being born in Puerto Rico of Cuban descend, la quinceanera, a student from Carrollton School of the Sacred Heart, started dancing with her father a Puerto Rican Danza followed by a Cuban Danzon. The fifteen couples joined them when the waltz started to play.
